MotoGP: Aleix Espargarò signs with HRC for test rider role

He himself had circulated the rumor, on the very day he announced his retirement from racing competition. While everyone expected to see him continue with Aprilia, albeit in a new capacity, Aleix Espargaro surprised most observers by immediately hinting at a close relationsip with Honda.

Thus, on the eve of the German GP, the last round of the MotoGP before the summer break, and in spite of a lengthy period with the Noale manufacturer that began in 2017, the rider from Granollers has indeed become the new HRC tester.

The official announcement was posted on the Japanese brand's website and social media. What convinced the Japanese manufacturer to bet on the Spaniard is a long resume characterized by 250 MotoGP starts, 1,300 points earned and three race wins.

Committed from 2025 in an attempt to relaunch the manufacturer that has been propping up the table for the past three championships, the 34-year-old will flank the current test rider Stefan Bradl, who therefore will not be sacrificed, much to the delight of Luca Marini, who in recent weeks had publicly expressed the hope that the German would be confirmed.
