SBK: Shane Byrne seeks £1 million compensation from BSB

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne is seeking £1 million compensation following the accident that ended his career. In 2018, during a day of testing at the Snetterton circuit, the 6-time British SBK champion crashed and violently slammed into the protective tyres, sustaining a serious spinal injury, and has now sued the organizer Motorsport Vision Racing, which organizes the BSB championship, the track owner and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Board of Control, as reported by the KentOnline news outlet.

Byrne argues that better protection should have been used at a spot where riders speed at over 300 kilometers per hour. Of course, the counterparts denied the lack, claiming that type of accident was "not reasonably foreseeable." In his summary, Shane argued that airfences should have been installed at that spot, while the defense maintain that the accident was the rider's fault and that the injuries could have been sustained in the crash and not in the impact against the barriers.

It will be up to Judge Bruce Blair to decide who is right in the legal dispute.
