The start of 2017 for Redding had its share of difficulties: 19th at Sepang and 20th at Phillip Island. The numbers almost never lie and they say that between the Briton and his Ducati GP16 there still has not been a spark.
Scott is aware of this and he makes no bones about it in Naples during the team Pramac presentation.
“My situation is much different from the one last year when I was at ease straight away with the bike and everything was easier”, he recalls his first steps with the GP15 on which, especially before Michelin changed the rear tyre, he had been very fast in the tests.
“On the other hand, I still need to figure out the GP16. I am beginning to get to know it, but it is a slow process” he admits.
The bike is not the only new thing for Scott, who lost his crew chief Giacomo Guidotti - now with Dani Pedrosa - and found Cristian Pupulin, with whom he had worked already in past years.
“We immediately established a good rapport with him and in these tests we were able to learn a lot from one another - he states - There is always a family feeling on the team and that’s what I like.”
Now he also needs to think about what goals to set for himself. Twelve months ago, Redding stated that he wanted to stay in the “Top 6”, but he had raised the bar too high.
“The situation was different though - he points out - Now there are more fast riders and I would say that aiming to stay in the Top 10 is a realistic goal, maybe in the Top 8 on some occasions. Being on a satellite team, I will have to be good at seizing every opportunity, particularly in case of rain.”
