MotoGP, Marini: “Martin should’ve braked 20 meters before to avoid Bagnaia”

“Stopping the bike with these wings is a problem, and you can’t make these mistakes if you want to win the title, but I understand that Martin was under pressure.”

MotoGP: Marini: “Martin should’ve braked 20 meters before to avoid Bagnaia”

Luca Marini concluded his adventure with the Mooney team in Valencia today. Marquez’s Honda will be waiting for him in 2024, inaugurating a new path in his racing career. The rider from Tavullia – 9th in the race behind Aleix Espargarò – was really emotional.

I think it was a good conclusion,” he said. “Despite the qualification round, I started well. I had a good pace, and I ended the race in a good position. Now I can’t wait to start this new adventure. I’m psyched and motivated.”

Luca was asked how much Rossi being present in Valencia helped.
At this point, I think it’s difficult to give something more than I already know how to. Surely, his  support.”

Marini thinks he progressed in 2023.
I improved in qualifying, and I think that, on several occasions, I managed to be in front of the line-up. I also progressed in riding style, contributing to my growth as a rider, in general.”

He then spoke about the contact between Martin and Bagnaia during the race.
When you’re in a rider’s slipstream, you have to brake twenty meters before, because you don’t have the downforce of the wings. This not only depends on front grip, but also on acceleration. The thing is, you feel like you don’t have any air. Stopping the bike is a problem, and it is every time, because you have to be aware that these things can happen. They are definitely mistakes that you shouldn’t make if you want to win the title, but Jorge was under pressure today, since he was forced to win while Pecco only needed to finish the race in the top five.”
