MotoGP: Bagnaia hopes to race as “one less race might make all the difference

Pecco Bagnaia left Indonesia with his morale six feet underground. The race in the wet could have been a good opportunity for him, but instead it saw him finish on the edge of the points. It was a bit of a tough blow for the Italian rider, who started with the aim of fighting for the title and who experienced two disappointing GPs. The weekend break was useful for him to understand what happened and to hit the reset button.

“At Mandalika it was my mistake - he admitted - I didn't put enough energy on the front and I lost some support from the tyre. When you don't push to the maximum you lose a bit of grip, in the end I made a mistake. "

Time at home helped him to clear away any bad thoughts.

“I enjoyed it - he said - I obviously went to the gym and I let off steam a lot with the workouts. Then I spent a lot of time with my girlfriend Domitia and with our dog, I needed the time to look at things with serenity and all the people who love me were good at giving it to me, so I was very well".

In addition, Pecco learned not to care too much about the criticism that promptly arrived on social media.

"In the end it's right to think they don't deserve me wasting time on them," he concluded.

With the chapter on the past over, Bagnaia must now focus on the future. Although there are few certainties at the moment, due to the delays with the cargo, his bike is in the garage (not complete) and spare parts are missing.

"We will have to wait to see if we can go out and lap on Saturday, because it is not yet certain that the cargo will arrive in time - he underlined - In any case, our plan will be to adapt the Ducati to the track, at this moment the asphalt is almost brown from how dirty it is. In these conditions it is always better not to try too many things, but to leave the bike as it is and try to ride as much as possible. I'm pretty sure it won't be an easy weekend for anyone. We'll just have to try to adapt as quickly as possible because we will have little time to do it ".

Another imperative is not to make mistakes, because the joker cards are finished...

"I am in a situation that requires me to restart to improve and progress. I very much hope that we can race, because one race less would make even more of a difference. At the moment this is the biggest unknown factor, this race might be recovered later, we don’t know yet, for sure by tomorrow they will let us know what will happen. It will be important to start well immediately and stay very focused. Luckily, this sort of thing did not happen on a track like Austin, which requires a lot of work. This, on the other hand, is a circuit quite similar to that of Indonesia, both in terms of design and set-up for the bike. I am not comfortable, because there is work to be done, but I am convinced that thanks to the work done in Mandalika we will be able to go well ".

Finally, Bagnaia also commented on the Red Bull Ring’s recently completed new chicane.

"For sure the previous situation was quite dangerous because of the walls, they’ve done a job that I likewas his opinion - We'll be able to get to the first left-hand corner with the tyre a little warmer, as there is another one before it. It seems like a fairly slow chicane, but it will allow us to arrive at a lower speed where the walls are, making everything safer ”.

Such a narrow 'S', however, can create the danger of bikes crossing the track in the event of a crash.

"I didn't think about it like that and I hope I don't have to think about it. If they have done it like this, I think they have studied all the various dynamics and I think it will go well" concluded Pecco.
