After the rumors, the confirmation. On April 1st, Liberty Media acquired 86% of Dorna for 4.2 billion Euros. Thanks to this transaction, which will be finalized by the end of the year, the American company will manage the image and promotion of both the F1, which is already in its hands, and the MotoGP.
On the fringe of this news, the FIM gave this new partnership its approval. As owner of the MotoGP since 1992, of the SBK since 2015, of the Junior GP since 2016, of the MotoE since 2019, and of the Women Circuit Racing since 2023, in an official release, it declared of being convinced that this collaboration will generate good results.
“All of our series will benefit from the strength and quality of Liberty Media's diffusion. Congratulations to Greg Maffei and his team for expanding his portfolio, which will undoubtedly allow the sport to grow for the benefit of the fans, teams, commercial partners, and all the shareholders involved in it,” the document stated.
“We’re pleased to continue the excellent relationship with Dorna, and especially with Carmelo Ezpeleta and his team. We look forward to working together on the development of this exciting sport,” it concluded.
