MotoGP, Gabarrini: "Bagnaia always adds another piece to his mosaic"

Pecco's crew chief on the perfect weekend in Mugello: "it's difficult to do better. He has gained awareness of his own abilities and is still evolving"

MotoGP: Gabarrini:

Behind every great rider there is always a great team and Bagnaia's is led by Cristian Gabarrini. After racing - and winning - with Stoner, Marquez, Lorenzo, the crew chief from Marche is now writing other pages in the history of motorcycle racing together with Pecco. The latest was at Mugello, where his rider dominated the entire weekend: pole position, track record and two victories, one in the Sprint and the other in the Sunday race.

"It was difficult to do better - Cristian smiles - Although Pecco wasn't 100% fit, he had a perfect weekend, I really find it difficult to imagine doing better than that".

Is Bagnaia getting you used to perfection?

“You never get used to that and every time there can be different pitfalls. For example, what happened in qualifying could have made him nervous and lose concentration, yet he did a record lap”.

His speed has never been in doubt, has he now taken another step forward mentally?

“In my opinion, since the middle of last year he has acquired an incredible awareness of his own abilities and most of the time he manages to use them very well. Obviously he's not free from some mistakes because he's human, you have to accept that. What is surprising is that every time he manages to put a new piece in a sort of puzzle, a mosaic, he is constantly evolving. He is very good at adapting to different situations, managing the tyres, he is surprising us a lot ”.

Mugello was the first of a trio of races, after this victory how will you tackle the other races?

“For sure this success will give him even more energy. With three races in a row, if you're not physically fit, you need something extra. From another point of view, I am very pragmatic and I say that the important thing will be to score points on Saturday and Sunday. Having said that, a weekend like this is really good for morale."
