MotoGP, Quartararo: "I can't overtake, I was faster on the lap in 2021"

“I immediately realised that it would be a painful race. Right now it's really difficult to have any expectations, because the bike also struggles to corner"

MotoGP: Quartararo:

Eleventh and also beaten by his teammate, Franco Morbidelli. The Mugello weekend ended in disappointment for Fabio Quartararo, who finished outside the top ten with his Yamaha.

On the part of the world championship runner-up there is a lot of disappointment for what happened on the occasion of the Italian GP weekend.

"It was a really difficult Sunday - he began - this morning with the medium I didn't have the feelings I had hoped for, but if I had chosen the soft I wouldn't have been able to manage. So I took to the track with the medium and right away I lacked the confidence I was looking for. I admit it wasn't the best choice, but I had no other alternative. I opted for the medium and it was certainly not the best choice”.

His dismay was plain to see.

“I wasn't able to overtake and I never had the hoped-for confidence. Perhaps our tire pressure was a bit too high, but it's pointless to dwell on it now."

And to think that two years ago he won at Mugello…

“It's not possible to make a comparison between the 2021 M1 and the current one, also because if you were to use the same setup, the bike would be different. Certainly, with the 2021 M1, my race lap was better than today. But now we are in a different era and everything is more difficult for us".

Now it’s time to think of Sachsenring in less than seven days.

“Right now it's really hard to have expectations. Unfortunately we can't get the bike to turn and we struggled here at Mugello too, especially at the last corner. So I hope to find something for the Sachsenring, which is a track with many corners".
