MotoGP, Quartararo: “Qualifying is fundamental with the Yamaha”

Fabio Quartararo hopes to reverse his trend, but he’s aware of the work that needs to be done: “We’re studying a way to stay closer to those who precede us when exiting corners. The potential is there, and we can be fast.”

MotoGP: Quartararo: “Qualifying is fundamental with the Yamaha”

A few days ago on the Portimão track, Fabio Quartararo didn’t have a very enthusiastic start to the 2023 season. The French rider was hoping the M1 would give him more than the 29 points he reached between Saturday and Sunday, but he was instead always forced to chase. An unenviable situation that El Diablo hopes to fix this weekend in Argentina at Termas de Rio Hondo, even if he knows that there’s lots of work to be done.

My pace in Portugal wasn’t bad, but the first laps of both races were really difficult,” former World Champion said during a press conference. “We have to figure our what to improve so that we can overtake and ride like the others.

In today’s MotoGP, you risk to irreparably compromise the outcome of the weekend during qualifying. That’s the case with Yamaha. Their Achille's heel, to date, seems to be the time attack: “We have to use these first races to make progress, especially on the flying lap,” he admitted. “With our bike, qualifying races becomes a fundamental moment, although the problem is actually similar even during the race.

A huge handicap that, in the race, is reflected in the inability to actually overtake: “The potential is there, and we can be very fast. We struggle to fight with others, and that’s why, with the technicians, we’re studying a way to stay closer to those who precede us when exiting corners. We hope to find a solution soon, but with no rush, because the season is still long.
