MotoGP, Fast by Prosecco Buriram, Pernat: “Bagnaia risked becoming a hero”

VIDEO - Carlo Pernat comments the end of the Thai race weekend, as usual, in the company of a good bottle of Prosecco Doc.

MotoGP, Fast by Prosecco Buriram, Pernat: “Bagnaia risked becoming a hero”

The MotoGP weekend in Thailand ended with one of the greatest races of the past seasons. Jorge Martìn got the best of Brad Binder and Pecco Bagnaia after a great battle, as they tried in every way to snatch the victory from the Spanish rider. The championship classification is now shorter, and the fight between Jorge and Pecco is increasingly fierce while, in the meantime, things in the Honda paddock are still in motion as they seek Marc Marquez's heir for the RCV213, with Fabio Di Giannantonio rightly waiting to take advantage of this great opportunity. As always, our Carlo Pernat, who quenches his thirst with an excellent Prosecco Doc in the scorching heat of Thailand, gives us his account of the weekend

“This was probably the most exciting GP we’ve seen this season. The last few laps were incredible. This is real motorcycling. An incredible end to the race between Martìn, Binder, and Bagnaia. Pecco got the ball rolling with an attempt to overtake from the outside. If he had succeeded, he would’ve been a hero. Binder may have had something more, but he also made some mistakes, such as exiting from the green, which made him lose a position in the race. As for Martin, once again he proved that he was the best rider we’ve seen in recent races.

Right now, he’s the most competitive. He’s the one who fights. This win was well deserved, and the points gap is narrowing again. It was also a success for Pramac. A team so good that it deserves all this. A well-deserved podium. KTM is competitive, but only with Binder! He can always fight for the podium. He just has to be more consistent, one step ahead of  KTM. On the other hand, Aprilia’s performance was below expectations. Vinales withdrew, while Aleix struggled, but he didn’t shine. Marc Marquez also had a good race. He fought as long as he could and did many good overtakes, some very good indeed.

I had my best day this season. Yamaha did its best. The flying lap every so often escapes us. Quartararo raced well, but we’d like to see him at the top. The Japanese constructors, on the whole, aren’t there. If it wasn’t for Marquez, Honda wouldn’t be there at all. Finding a replacement won’t be easy. As of today, the second rider hasn’t been chosen. Fabio Di Giannantonio is still available on the market and is getting good results in the last races. Puig should consider him, but he doesn’t like Italians. In an interview, he went as far as the mafia stereotype. Technical ability should be the only parameter for such a decision, and Fabio doesn’t deserve to be excluded from the MotoGP.

Once again, a great disappointment for Aprilia, which perhaps still has some problems with the bike’s set-up, especially with regard to the tires. In the end, Ducati continues to dominate, but today Binder and KTM deserved just as much. As for Bagnaia, that attempt to overtake would have deserved a monument, if he had been successful. This will be a championship that will last all the way to Valencia, unless something strange happens along the way. It would be good for the sport as a whole. Hopefully we’ll see more amazing GPs like this one!”
