SBK: Black year for motorcycling: Maxime Berger has passed

While round eleven of the WorldSBK plays out at Magny-Cours, the bike world is hit with some terrible news. Maxime Berger has passed away at the tender age of 28. He had been at Digione hospital, in a very serious condition, since 1 September, following a suicide attempt.

Father Alain broke the news:Maxime had been in a coma for a month and I decided, together with the doctors treating him, to let him go. He will now rest in peace. Thanks to everyone who sent their kind messages.

Berger's career saw him win the European SuperStock600 in 2007, before moving up and reaching Superbike in 2011. He later embarked on an adventure in the Endurance series.
